How to plan a wedding

The hard part is over—finding the right person to spend the rest of your life with! Now, the fun begins as you plan the first day of your lives together as a married couple. No matter your style, budget or backgrounds, an undertaking that is unlike anything else you’ve ever done before awaits. Here at WedBlend, our goal is to make the planning part of the process as efficient and painless as possible. By utilizing cutting edge technology and the extensive network of carefully screened and approved vendors we will be able to help you get through the race and up to the finish line, at which point you’ll decide how best to complete the process.

There are many books and guides out there that can take you, step-by-step, through the process of planning your wedding, but each couple and their ideas are very different. Therefore, below is broad strokes overview of the general steps to plan your wedding, along with links to various resources we created for our wedding (which we believe will assist you), and then ultimately provide you a toolbox (WedBlend) to quickly and efficiently sort through the sea of vendors and match you to the most appropriate few.

Basic steps

• Create an overall budget

Establish a budget, overall, for your entire wedding—every aspect together. You should include everything that must be paid for. These items will help drive the tasks that need to be completed in planning your wedding (e.g. Venue, Flowers, Music etc) Refer to our easy to use budget sheet that we found very helpful when planning our wedding.

• Establish a task list and timeline

First break out high-level categories (i.e. Vendors, Honeymoon, Apparel, etc.), and enter them into a spreadsheet. Then, once that is completed, become very granular under each category.

Working backwards from the date of your wedding begin to outline deadlines for each item that you have listed. Depending on the size and style of your wedding the timeframe varies, but it is always recommended that the venue and officiant are booked first. Keep in mind you have to compile a guest list in order to have an estimate on attendees before booking the venue.

• Wedding party

If you are having a wedding party, make sure to ask your friends and family to take part in your special day. There are many fun ways that you can ask them to be a part of this day. These people are there to help you through this exciting time, so have them help out in order to share in this time with you.

• Wedding day agenda and schedule

After all of your hard work and money that went into planning the details leading up to the big day, the last thing that you want to be doing is worrying about the logistics on the day of your wedding. Create a day of the wedding schedule. Use our template available for download below as an example to provide to the Caterer or a trusted friend or family member to help out the day of the wedding.
